Fortnite Trinity Challenge – who’s in your trio?

Here at Three, we love a bit of competitive gaming. So, we’ve partnered with Epic Games to bring you the Fortnite Trinity Challenge. Love a Victory Royale and think you’re one of the best? Then why not put yourself to the test? Here’s all the info so you can jump in prepared.

What’s it all about?

Kicking off on Sunday 14 March, the Fortnite Trinity Challenge is an exciting new tournament. It gives gamers the chance to team up with 2 of their mates to compete and win prizes.

Here’s the lowdown:

You’ve got 3 hours to play 10 games – sounds easy, right? All your Trio has to do is earn enough points to finish in the top 3,333. Earn points by surviving longer or by eliminating other players:

  • Victory Royale: 10 points
  • 2nd to 5th place: 7 points
  • 6th to 15th place: 5 points
  • 16th to 25th place: 3 points
  • Each elimination: 1 point
  • Each game played: 1 point

You don’t have to be a certain rank to compete either – anyone can enter. So, what are you waiting for? Will you go “full send” to get as many eliminations as possible? Or will you play strategically for placement points?

Let’s talk prizes

The top 3,333 players will win the new Trinity Trooper Outfit. Also, anyone who competes in at least 5 matches will unlock the Trinity Impact and Trinity Overload Emoticons.

Sounds exciting – how do I get involved?

We’re glad you asked. On tournament day, go to the in-game playlist, select the Fortnite Trinity Challenge, return to Lobby, and then hit Play. A countdown pop-up will start 1 hour before the tournament starts and will appear directly above the Play button.

Get your Trio together, have fun, and good luck!

Better Health Campaign

We’re proud to support Public Health England’s Better Health – Every Mind Matters campaign to protect the nation’s mental wellbeing.

In a survey by Public Health England, half of adults said they felt that the pandemic had impacted negatively on their mental health and wellbeing. 46% have experienced more anxiety or low mood, and 34% have had more sleep problems. Plus, 51% of young people aged 18-34 reported that Coronavirus had caused them more stress, and 43% felt more lonely. However, a massive 75% reported that they’re planning to, or have taken steps to look after their mental wellbeing.

Although restrictions will soon be starting to ease, it could be a while before our pre-pandemic lives will return. If you’ve been struggling with your mental health, here are some simple things you can do and extra resources which may help.

Tips for dealing with uncertainty

  • Focus on the short term – If we look far into the future, it can often seem overwhelming. Instead focus on each day and the simple things that you can change right now.
  • Acknowledge what’s working – Even if there are many things not going to plan or up in the air, try to focus on what is going right. Whether it’s a close relationship, a favourite meal, a sunny day or a song that you love.
  • Reframe your thoughts – During difficult times, it can be easy to get caught up in negative thoughts and feelings. For many people, feeling uneasy is a normal reaction to the uncertainty of everyday life. But if you take a step back and examine the evidence, then you may find new thoughts or positive ways of looking at things appear.
  • Find a new rhythm – Keep up routine and structure in your day. This can be a powerful way to boost feelings of consistency and reduce anxiety or doubt. Build in time to de-stress and wind down each day. Choose positive activities like exercise, relaxation, hobbies, chatting with friends or spending quality time with close ones. And get into a good pattern with sleeping too.

You can use the free NHS Every Mind Matters action plan to start feeling better on the inside today. Just answer 5 quick questions and you’ll get your own personalised plan. It’ll be filled with practical tips to help you manage stress and anxiety, boost your mood or enjoy a more restful sleep.

Gogglebox – Meet the cast

Gogglebox – Meet the cast

Friday 26 February saw the return of the nation’s favourite telly watchers in series 17 of Gogglebox.

The show’s gone from strength to strength since the first series in 2013. And hit a record-breaking 6.5 million average viewers in 2020. And with weekend nights out becoming a distant memory – it’s hardly surprising we all love the living room antics on a Friday night. They bring us closer together on our sofas as we enjoy a shared connection as a nation.

That’s why we’re proud to sponsor Gogglebox on 4 and we can’t wait to get up close to the characters that make it such a hit. Here’s an intro to some of our fave Goggleboxers.

Ellie and Izzi – @ellieandizzi

Ellie and Izzy - Gogglebox

Leeds-based Ellie Warner and sister Izzi joined the show back in 2015 and have become firm favourites. They’re known for their passion for food and adorable dogs; Mick and Madge and new additions Morris and Fudge.

What do they do in real-life? Ellie’s a hairdresser and Izzi is mum to 5-year-old Bobby and Bessie Rose who was born in February 2020.

Jenny and Lee – @leegogglebox

Jenny and Lee - Gogglebox

An iconic duo if ever there was one. Jenny and Lee have been best mates for over 20 years having met in the pub that Jenny used to run.

They don’t live together but isolated in Lee’s caravan during the pandemic so they could continue filming.

Fun fact: Jenny and Lee have the highest social media following of all the cast.

The Plummers @Goggleboxbros

Tremaine, Twaine and Tristan - Gogglebox

The Plummers from Bristol are 3 brothers – Tremaine, Twaine, and Tristan and also known as the 3 Ts. They’ve been Goggleboxers since 2016 and are a huge hit with viewers.

Fun fact: They’re football mad. In fact, Hereford FC fans might recognise Tristan as a winger for the club. And Twaine plays for Bradford Town. While brother Tremaine is a chef.

The Malones @themalonesGB

The Malones - Gogglebox

The Malone family – Tom Sr, Julie, Shaun, and Tom Jr are based in Manchester. They’ve been part of the show since 2014 and are known for their hilarious one-liners and impressive TV snack selections. And their 4 rescue dogs, Dave, Izzy, Lucy, and Joe regularly steal the show with their antics.

Catch series 17 of Gogglebox on Channel 4 every Friday at 21:00.

Keep data safe with your Personal Hotspot

What is a Personal Hotspot?

A Personal Hotspot, or tethering, allows you to set up your own Wi-Fi connection using your phone data. You can share this Wi-Fi connection with friends and family members too. Or even use it to hook up your other devices.

Why you might need it

It’s handy if you don’t want to risk using public Wi-Fi. The free Wi-Fi, which you’ll find around places like stations, coffee shops or airports is often targeted by hackers to access information. This can include your emails, logins or credit card details. Some hackers can even send you malicious software over public Wi-Fi, which looks like an upgrade pop-up. And, if you accept them, they could infect your device.
However, your own Personal Hotspot is protected with a password and has our built-in network security. So, you can go online anywhere and feel safe – whether you’re bingeing your favourite show, checking emails, or your bank balance.

Creating your Personal Hotspot

Any of our new Pay Monthly or SIM Only plans will let you create a Personal Hotspot, as long as your phone has that functionality. Plus, if you’ve got Unlimited data, then you can use it as much you want without worrying about cost. Our Support page Create a Personal Hotspot on your phone describes how to set this up on your Android phone or iPhone.

To add another layer of security, we’d also recommend:

  • Turning your Personal Hotspot off after you’ve finished with it.
  • Using a password which is difficult to guess.
  • Changing your password each time if you’ve shared it.

The Shared Rural Network: everything you need to know

Enviable views, less traffic, and an all-round slower pace of life – living in a remote part of the UK can be idyllic. But it does have its drawbacks – the lack of 4G coverage being one. Without it, running a business, staying connected, and getting around can be so much harder.

But that’s all set to change with the Shared Rural Network.

What is the Shared Rural Network?

It’s a £1bn project funded by the UK’s mobile network operators and the UK Government to bring better connectivity to rural areas. The aim is to bring 4G coverage to 280,000 more homes and businesses and 16,000km of roads across the country.

Once completed, 95% of the UK will have reliable 4G coverage.

What’s the latest?

We’re working together with O2 and Vodafone to get started on the first stage of the Shared Rural Network. And have agreed to build and share over 220 new mobile masts across the UK, boosting rural coverage. This work will start this year and is due to be completed by 2024.

Robert Finnegan, CEO of Three UK, said:

“Mobile connectivity is absolutely critical for communities around the UK helping to support local economies and keeping people connected with their friends and family. The Shared Rural Network will have a transformative effect on coverage across the UK and it is great to be working with the rest of the industry to achieve this.”

Mark Evans, CEO of O2, said:

“The Shared Rural Network is a new and more collaborative way of delivering greater investment in infrastructure to improve mobile digital connectivity – a high impact enabler of economic growth.  I am delighted that O2 is working in partnership with other mobile operators to deliver the Shared Rural Network, which will support individuals, businesses and communities across rural Britain.”

Nick Jeffery, CEO of Vodafone UK, said:

“We know connectivity is vital and the only way to fill the holes in the UK’s mobile coverage is to work together. Our unique collaboration with O2 and Three will deliver 222 new sites in parts of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland that need better connectivity. Delivering the Shared Rural Network will make a huge difference to communities across the UK.”

And here’s what the Shared Rural Network improvements will look like in each of the UK nations:

Scotland

Scotland will get 124 new sites in areas including Orkney, the Cairngorms, and the Borders. This will see 4G coverage from all 4 operators increase to a minimum of 74%, from 42% in 2020.

Wales

Wales will get 33 new sites with improved areas including Pembrokeshire, Snowdonia National Park, and the Brecon Beacons. With 4G coverage from all 4 operators increasing from 58% in 2020, to a minimum of 80%.

Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland will get 11 new sites with 4G coverage from all 4 operators rising from 75% in 2020, to a minimum of 85%.

England

54 new sites will be built in England with 4G coverage from all 4 operators increasing to a minimum of 90%, from 81% in 2020.

Unlimited data upgrades for disadvantaged kids

Another lockdown brings more challenges. For parents and carers, it’s another period of online home schooling. To help, we’re offering free Unlimited data upgrades to disadvantaged children in England, so they can study at home. We’ve partnered with the Department of Education’s Get Help with Technology programme. Joining this programme means schools can request free additional data for children without internet access at home. The Unlimited data can be used until the end of the school year in July.

Our Chief Commercial Officer, Elaine Carey said that: “Education is crucial for everyone in society and it’s vital no child misses out. Three UK wants to support those families that need access to connectivity to support their child’s learning needs during the pandemic.”

How to get Unlimited data access

Your child’s school or local authority can apply for this using this form – Increasing data allowance on mobile devices to support disadvantaged children. The only things they need are the account holder name, number of the mobile device and the mobile network (for example, Three). Once we’ve processed the form, we’ll send a text message to the account holder. You can also check the status of the request online.

If you’re in Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland, look out for separate schemes.

Other ways we’re helping in the pandemic

We’re also providing zero rating calls to NHS 101, NHS websites and video consultations. Plus, we’ve got free Unlimited data upgraded for NHS frontline staff. Read more on how we’re making sure everyone stays connected.
