Use your data roaming in one of eleven new Feel At Home destinations

Use your data roaming in one of eleven new Feel At Home destinations

Good news for everyone planning their big getaways for 2018. We’ve just added eleven more destinations to our Feel At Home Around the World list. In addition to the 60 countries we already had on board, we’ve added Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mayotte, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Uruguay and Vietnam. That means there’s now 71 possible destinations to use data roaming, and call and text back to the UK, at no extra cost.

Let’s take a little look at the newcomers, shall we?

Chile

Chile

Stretching down the west coast of South America, Chile is a one-stop spot for just about anything you’d like to see in the world. That’s including – but not limited to – world-class vineyards, the driest desert on earth, the Andes mountains, a 6,500km coastline, and no less than five UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Oh, and penguins.

Colombia

Colombia

Moving north, Colombia sits right near the top of South America. It’s synonymous with coffee, so much so that you can pay a visit to many of the very places your morning cup might have originated from. There’s plenty of cities to stroll around – the capital city of Bogota among them. And if you’d rather venture further out, you’ll have no shortage of options, from Tayrona National Park to – if you’re feeling mythic – the Lost City of Teyuna.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica

With over 800 miles of coastline and around 200 volcanoes, Costa Rica is a stunningly beautiful place to visit. And boasting over 25% of its territory protected as either a wildlife reserve or a national park, Costa Rica has a rich, unique ecosystem. Plus, it’s home to over 10% of the entire world’s species of butterfly. So fill yourself up with Gallo Pinto, grab a little Cafecito, and go get lost.

El Salvador

El Salvador

The smallest country in all of Central America, El Salvador punches above its weight in many ways. Firstly, it’s famous the world over for its surfing beaches. It also has the distinct honour of being home to four distinct species of sea turtles. And if you’re a food-lover, there’s few things in this world better than dipping a Pupusa into some freshly made spicy tomato sauce.

Guatemala

Guatemala

With over half of current Guatemalans descendant from the indigenous Mayans, Guatemala boasts a very long, very interesting history. And while there’s still some way to go for Guatemala, it’d be wrong to overlook its breathtaking Mayan ruins, its many active volcanoes (good to watch from a safe distance) and its deeply entrenched cultures.

Mayotte

Mayotte

A small set of islands in the Indian Ocean, Mayotte is a tropical hideaway with its own multitude of unique species, and a coral reef circling much of the main island has one of the largest lagoons in the world. Perfect for snorkelling, diving and relaxing.

Nicaragua

Nicaragua

Situated between two oceans, Nicaragua gives you the rare opportunity, if you fancy it, of taking a morning dip in the Pacific Ocean, then hot-footing it across country in time for an evening swim in the Caribbean Sea. And with the highest percentage of forestry in all of Central America, it’s the perfect country for a long, long wander. And don’t worry about getting lost along the way – it’s also officially one of the safest countries in the southern hemisphere.

Panama

Panama

Among the many features that make it stand out from the crowd, Panama is unique in one particular respect – sit yourself down in its narrowest point, and you can watch the sun rise over the Pacific Ocean, and set over the Atlantic Ocean. In between times, you can bask in its tropical climate, check out the canal, or visit the only rainforest in the world located within a capital city.

Peru

Peru

Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places on Earth, Peru has far too many must-see locations to mention here. But as just a taster, while in Peru you can visit the highest sand dune in the world, Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, a Rainbow Mountain, arguably the beginning of the Amazon river in the Peruvian Andes, and Machu Picchu, nearly 8,000 feet above sea level, and one of the New Seven Wonders of the world. Peru really does have it all.

Uruguay

Uruguay

Commonly known as the most peaceful, democratic and prosperous country in Latin America, Uruguay is the perfect country for off-the-beaten-path and less touristy, more immersive experiences. Check out the Patria Gaucha (cowboy festival), take a dip in the thermal baths of Salto, and take a hot air balloon trip across its olive tree plantations. Uruguay is definitely one country for taking it slowly.

Vietnam

Vietnam

With a coastline stretching almost three and a half thousand kilometres, Vietnam has one heckuva lot of beaches. But if lounging in the sand ain’t your thing, you can always pay a visit to one of its (count ‘em) eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites, or even take a little trip round Saigon on a Vespa. Still need convincing? It’s the home of the Bahn Mi and the Pho, either one of which is worth the price of the plane ticket alone.

What is data roaming?

Wherever you decide your next adventure will be, if it’s in one of our 71 destinations, and so long as you have a suitable price plan, you ‘ll be able to use Feel At Home, and go wild with data roaming. That means you can use your mobile data just like at home, and so long as you have data left in your allowance, you’ll avoid any nasty roaming charges. and call and text back to the UK with all your available allowance. Feel At Home is available on selected Pay Monthly plans, as well as on our Pay As You Go SIM plans.

Top 5 reasons to love your iPhone

Were you lucky enough to unwrap that shiny new iPhone on Christmas Day? The brand spanking new iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus, or even iPhone 7 or iPhone 6? If so, we bet you didn’t waste any time uncovering all the nifty features it comes packed with.

Whether you’re a gaming geek, an app-a-holic, a photo fiend or a social butterfly, iPhone has everything you’re looking for. We’re a little bit in love with ours (in case you hadn’t guessed) so here are the top 5 reasons for our iPhone crush:

1. It’s ultra-fast.

When it comes to speed, iPhone leaves many devices for dust. iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X all have an Apple-designed A11 Bionic chip which – without getting too geeky – makes gaming and the latest augmented reality apps smooth and slick.

2. Totally user-friendly.

Everyone has their favourite brands and if you love your smartphone, no doubt it runs with your favourite operating system. But whether you’re an Android lover or a Windows fan, you can’t deny that the user experience of an Apple device is near to perfection. Let’s face it, they’ve barely needed to change a thing since the first iPhone launch in 2007. It’s straightforward and super-easy to work your way through the functions – and once you’ve tried Apple, not many people look back.

3. It has the latest, greatest apps.

Because iPhone is so popular, most app developers are keen to get their newest creations launched on iOS. Instagram was available on iPhone for 2 years before coming to Android, so you’re onto a good thing if you’re always looking for the next big thing in the app world.

4. You get Apple Pay.

No matter which smartphone you have in your pocket, there are ways you can use it to pay for stuff. But Apple Pay is the most popular and widely supported method for making mobile payments and it’s currently available in more than 20 countries. It’s also super-easy to use – just put your phone up against the payment device at the checkout and then press your finger on the Touch ID sensor.

5. Unrivalled camera.

Many of today’s smartphones have cameras that are brilliant enough to replace your standalone snapper. But the vibrancy and high performance in low-light is the real beauty of an iPhone camera. Having said this, not everyone is happy. The ‘true depth camera’ on iPhone X gives you unforgiving selfies. With portrait lighting on the front-facing camera you get scarily high-quality, crisp images that are a bit too true to life for some. Cue those filters.

If you didn’t get that super-sleek smartphone for Christmas, never fear. We’ve got some amazing iPhone deals available, so treating yourself doesn’t have to feel quite so indulgent.

And the best bit about getting your iPhone on Three is our awesome Go Roam and Go Binge deals that mean data doesn’t have to be a problem. You can use your iPhone to roam in 71 destinations around the world without paying a penny more with Feel at Home Around the World, and you can enjoy infinite streaming of TV shows, movies and more with Go Binge. So, if you’re truly tempted to see what all the fuss is about, make sure you get your iPhone on Three.

The new Samsung Galaxy S: the word on the street

The new Samsung Galaxy S: the word on the street

This time last year we eagerly awaited the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S8, but it was released much later than expected, finally making its entrance to the market in March 2017.

Although we’re being teased again that Samsung’s latest, greatest addition to the Galaxy S range could be with us in January, say that it could make an appearance at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2018) in February; or (shock, horror!) that we could be left dangling until March, yet again. But whatever happens with the release date, the new Samsung phone is imminent and rumours are rife about what we should expect.

According to numerous sources, the latest Samsung phone will be the first Android superphone of 2018. But what does this mean exactly? Will the all-new Samsung mobile live up to our expectations? As always, things are being kept on a down-low, but we’re bringing you the biggest pieces of gossip that are currently doing the rounds online:

How will it look?

An apparent photo was reportedly leaked a while ago, leading to all sorts of excitement. There have been conflicting reports about the headphone jack with some saying it’s being done away with and others confirming that – unlike our friends at Apple – Samsung have decided to keep the 3.5mm headphone jack that’ll be located along the bottom of the handset. It’s also rumoured that the new Samsung Galaxy will come with AKG Bluetooth in-ear headphones, which may be fuelling the debate.

If you like a bit of colour in your life, you’ll love the speculation that Samsung are adding a purple model, alongside the regular black, blue and gold options. Ultra Violet is the Pantone® colour of the year for 2018, so this could tie in very nicely (although the ‘purple’ rumour was doing the rounds last year with the S8, so we probably shouldn’t hold out too much hope).

The lowdown on the screen

Expertreviews.co.uk state that the new Samsung phone is likely to use the 18.5:9 aspect ratio that you find on the S8 and, according to a PocketNow report, Korean Media has claimed that the new Galaxy phone and the ‘Plus’ version will stick to the current screen sizes of 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch respectively.

Despite the uncertainty around screen size, we’re hoping that Samsung will stick to their Super AMOLED display, with super-vibrant, stunning visuals. Oh, and Samsung licensed a new coating in 2016 that makes water bounce off your smartphone screen – so you’ll be home and dry with the new flagship device, even if you’re caught in a downpour.

The full picture

Whether you’re after sultry selfies or panoramic perfection, when it comes to camera phones, the Samsung Galaxy S models are hard to beat. But what’s in store for us with the latest, greatest member of this flagship range? Again, nothing is concrete, but according to techradar.com it’s rumoured to be able to shoot amazing slow-motion video:

“A new rumor suggests the phone may come with a camera capable of 1,000 frames per second to be able to shoot super high quality slow-mo footage.”

This would be better than anything in a phone on the market right now.

Generally-speaking it’s likely that the new Samsung Galaxy phone will rival many of the top camera phones on the market, just like the S8 and the S8+. Let’s face it, the camera has steadily improved year-on-year since the launch of S6; so many online reviewers are hazarding a guess that you’ll get better performance and a wider aperture for top-notch low-light snaps. Having said this, there isn’t even a whiff of gossip surrounding the number of megapixels on offer. Boo.

The Galaxy Note 8 was the first Samsung device to offer the dual lens camera, and the Galaxy S models have been known to bring in a few of the standout features from the Note series, so the newest model could well have a dual lens in there, as well as the ‘Plus’ version.

According to gizmochina.com there are leaks that the new Samsung phone will feature a new anti-glare coating called BBAR (Broadband Anti-Reflection). We’re not sure what makes this different to most camera phones that already come with anti-glare coatings, but it’s worth keeping an eye out for.

Powerful stuff.

The newest model in the Galaxy series will be a flagship device, so we’re expecting powerful hardware with the latest processor from the likes of Exynos or Qualcomm offering improved battery life and performance. The S8 and S8+both have 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, as well as microSD, but it wouldn’t be surprising if the next in the series jumps up to 6GB of RAM, especially seeing as the Note 8 already offers this.

Before Christmas, Pocket Lint mentioned rumours that we could see an increase in battery capacity for the new Samsung from 3,000,Ah to 3,200mAh.

Operating system

The new Samsung phones will no doubt launch on the latest Android Oreo operating system. You’ll get Samsung’s super-intuitive TouchWiz software over the top and we’re expecting the Bixby personal assistant that features on the S8 and S8+, and possibly some super-nifty extras.

So, what’s new for the Galaxy S?

People inside and outside of the industry are hazarding guesses left, right and centre, but if rumours are to be believed, the biggest change is an in-screen fingerprint scanner beneath the glass. And with some industry sources predicting that it’ll come with a 3D sensor front camera, we could be looking at face recognition as another option for unlocking your Galaxy. Here’s what reliable leakster Ice Universe (who’s been right with predictions about new Samsung phones in the past) had to say:

Galaxy S 3D sensor front camera

For now, pinning down the spec of the latest in the Samsung Galaxy range is pretty much guesswork and nothing has really been confirmed or denied by the big guys. We can expect a host of improvements over the Galaxy S8 and S8+, naturally, but we’ll just have to sit tight if we want to know more of the specifics.

We’ll keep this post updated as and when we hear more, but in the meantime, you could check out the S8 and S8 Plus to explore the Galaxy S range ahead of the new release. Otherwise, watch this space and hold tight…
