In mobile backhaul and edge, mobile and data-centre sites are being deployed in private or hybrid clouds where an IPv6 underlay is becoming more common. An initial role for SRv6 is to enable the VPN service overlay. Next steps are to extend the role of SRv6 to more advanced applications such as Traffic Engineering, 5G slicing, load-balancing, and service chaining.
