Segment Routing technology allows a single true multi-service and multi-slice fronthaul network to be constructed, which can be used to transport latency-sensitive fronthaul traffic and other non-latency-critical applications, imposing special requirements on the TOR. Mustapha Aissaoui of Nokia provides insights into the emerging role of SRv6 at MPLS SD & AI Net World, Paris, April 2024. In mobile backhaul and edge, mobile and data-centre sites are being deployed in private or hybrid clouds where an IPv6 underlay is becoming more common. An initial role for SRv6 is to enable the VPN service overlay.
