29 October 2018, London: EE today announced the OnePlus 6T is available to pre-order on it’s award-winning network from EE stores, over the phone and from ee.co.uk/OnePlus6T. The move forms part of EE’s strategy to provide customers with the best connections and experiences, so they can get the most out of the world’s best smartphones.

The OnePlus 6T is available from EE in two colours – Mirror Black and Midnight Black, with price plans starting from £39 per month with a £50 upfront fee offering unlimited UK minutes, unlimited texts and a 1GB data allowance.

Customers who take out the OnePlus 6T on a EE Max plan will receive 24-months inclusive access to the BT Sport App, as well as the UK’s fastest 4G download speeds via EE’s advanced 4G network, plus the ability to use their UK allowance abroad in over 50 destinations worldwide, including: Europe, USA, Canada, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand. What’s more, with an EE pay monthly plan, OnePlus 6T customers get Wi-Fi Calling and 4G Calling allowing them to make the most from their new flagship smartphone.

The OnePlus 6T will support fast charging with a half-hour charge giving the handset enough power for an entire day, while the OnePlus 6T’s built-in cooling system allows the battery to charge at full speed even while streaming videos or playing graphically-intensive games.

EE has today announced that Huawei’s new flagship smartphone, the Huawei Mate20 Pro, will be available on EE’s award-winning network, offering customers the UK’s fastest speeds and access to 4G in more places.

Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL available now to preorder on EE

3rd October 2018, London: EE treated students from Goodwood Flying School to the world’s first 4G cinema in the sky experience, suspended 100 feet in the air above a former RAF base. The extraordinary film screening marks the return of 4GEE Cinema, a series of free 4G-powered outdoor film screenings bringing BAFTA-winning films to rural communities.

The twenty lucky flying school students were raised high above the South Downs to enjoy a sunset screening. The buzz of popcorn delivering drones filled the skies as the students were strapped into their cinema seats before being elevated 100 feet in the air.

Further 4GEE Cinema screenings are coming soon to a field near you throughout October, helping to bring big screen outdoor cinema to rural communities across the UK. Film lovers up and down the country could be in with a chance to win a 4GEE Cinema experience, complete with big screen viewing, popcorn, pick ‘n mix and a choice of BAFTA-winning films for up to 40 people. To apply for a screening, entrants need to visit ee.co.uk/cinema and explain why their community deserves to win a screening – whether they’ve just completed a community project or won a sporting tournament, the 4GEE Cinema team wants to hear about it.

Friday 21st September 2018: EE is marking the launch of the iPhone XS, with a new brand campaign starring Kevin Bacon and Inbetweeners star, Simon Bird. The campaign launches on the same day as the UK release of the iPhone XS (Friday 21st September 2018) and highlights that EE customers can get the most out of the latest smartphones with the UK’s number one network.

The advert opens with Bird’s familiar bespectacled eyes peeping through a gap in the venetian blind. Outraged, he spies his neighbourhood rival receiving the new iPhone XS with a smug grin. Taking a break from curtain twitching, Bird vents his frustration to Kevin Bacon over breakfast.

The smartphone spat continues with Bird preparing to retaliate by throwing a box of eggs at his opposition. Before things escalate further, Kevin Bacon pauses from taking a bite of his bacon sarnie to step in, reminding Bird that he can go one better by getting the new iPhone on EE, the UK’s number one network for five years in a row. The ad concludes with Bird sparking fury by gleefully parading his new iPhone XS on EE in front of his neighbour, winning the day safe in the knowledge that he’ll get faster 4G speeds in more places on EE than any other network.

EE will offer Apple’s latest products, including iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, the most advanced iPhones ever, as well as iPhone XR, bringing the latest iPhone innovations to more people, and Apple Watch Series 4 (GPS + 4G), redesigned and re-engineered to help users stay connected, be more active and manage their health in powerful new ways. EE TURNS 3G INTO 4G TO BOOST SMARTPHONE SPEEDS AND LAY FOUNDATION FOR 5G LAUNCH IN 2019

  • EE is converting more 3G airwaves to 4G signal to boost mobile internet speed and reliability
  • Upgraded sites will now use five ‘carriers’ of spectrum, supporting the latest smartphone launches
  • Maximum capacity 4G sites in UK’s busiest hotspots lay foundation for 5G network switch on in 2019

EE, part of the BT Group, is turning 3G signal into 4G on more than 500 mobile towers in the next six months to enable the maximum performance on the top smartphones being released in 2018, as more customers demand high speed mobile data connections.

EE is converting mobile spectrum from carrying slow data and calls on 3G to giving customers superfast data and crystal-clear calls on 4G, to make sure its customers are getting the best possible mobile experience. The upgrades mean faster mobile data speeds, and a more reliable connection.

The use of 3G – 2100MHz – spectrum to power 4G will give the upgraded sites five ‘carriers’ of 4G – more than any other UK operator. The latest smartphones can support connections to all five of those ‘carriers’ at the same time, with ‘5CA’ – the latest smartphone technology innovation.

The sites that EE is upgrading from 3G to 4G are the ‘hotspots’ in the EE network, where there is the greatest demand for mobile internet. The sites are mainly spread across London, Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol, Exeter, Hull, Nottingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cardiff and Belfast.

EE will switch on its 5G network in 2019. 5G sites will be built on top of the upgraded sites with maximum amount of 4G spectrum, in the busiest areas.

Marc Allera, CEO of BT’s Consumer business, said: “Our customers want a fast and reliable 4G connection, and that’s what we’re working to give them. We are using the investment we made in 3G spectrum nearly 15 years ago to give customers today a great experience with the latest smartphones on 4G, and build our foundation for 5G in 2019. We’re constantly evolving, and the customer experience of 5G will be dictated by the quality of the 4G network underneath.”

EE was named as the UK’s best network for the 5th year in a row. RootMetrics travelled 20,928 miles, and undertook 593,008 tests (including calls, data and text messages), of all four of the UK networks across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, in the first six months of 2018. The company has been testing all UK mobile operators every six months since 2012.

3G usage on EE is reducing rapidly, with customers now making more calls on 4G than on 3G for the first time ever – meaning they still have access to superfast 4G while making calls, and can benefit from EVS (enhanced voice services) technology for clearer voice quality.

With 4G Calling and WiFi Calling – where calls are possible even with only WiFi coverage – available on every smartphone with a pay monthly contract, EE is giving customers the most reliable voice service ever, and in more places than ever before.

EE has also introduced completely new ways for customers to make phone calls, with the launch of smart number technology and Apple Watch 4G connectivity. EE has rolled out smart number technology to allow customers to extend their phone number to five other connected devices – like tablets and laptops – which are internet connected with either Wi-Fi or mobile connectivity. Smart number technology is initially available for iOS users, and will be rolling out to Android at a later date.

EE is also the only UK network to enable 4G connectivity for the Apple Watch Series 3, allowing customers to stay connected with the same number to make calls and receive texts, even without their iPhone nearby.
