Sendai City deploys connected drones for disaster alert and rescue

The City of Sendai and Nokia have worked together to create a tsunami warning system based on Nokia Drone Networks. In the case of an earthquake and subsequent tsunami, drones will help in two ways. First is the alarm. The drones fly in a swarm, and the flight is fully automated. Later, in the rescue and evacuation phase, drones with thermal cameras locate those in need. The drones operate in a secure, reliable private wireless network. It will function, even if the public network is down. In addition, since the drones operate automatically, the lives of people providing evacuation alerts are protected.
