Your bags are packed, you’ve double and triple checked that you’ve got your passport – you’ve officially got that “I’m going on holiday” buzz.

But before you get the airports drinks in and start making everyone jealous with your endless holiday Snapchats, we’ve got a couple of checks that are worth doing, just to make sure your holiday goes off without a hitch.

Forget roaming charges

First things first…roaming charges. We know, they suck. That’s why Go Roam is available in 71 destinations world-wide. You can holiday spam ’til your heart’s content without worrying about an eye-watering bill when you get home. Let’s face it, the holiday blues are bad enough.

If you’re not heading off to a Go Roam destination, all is not lost. The Data Passport gives you All-you-can-eat data that you can use until midnight (UK time), for just £5/day.

Be sure you know how to activate International Roaming

Now you’ve got roaming charges sorted out, you’ll want to make sure you can use your services as soon as you arrive, right? How else are you going to let bae/your parents/pets know you’ve arrived safely?

Before you head off, make sure you’ve got international roaming set up on your account. You can check this by logging into My3 online and going to ‘making calls abroad’ or by using the Three App and going to Phone Settings, then ‘Using your phone abroad’.

If international roaming is active, it’ll show as ‘you can make calls abroad’ – if not, give us a call and we’ll update your settings for you.

You’ll also need to make sure that your phone is compatible with the frequency of the networks in the country you’re heading to. A tri-band or quad-band phone will work in almost any country. Not sure which frequencies your phone supports? Don’t sweat it, check our device support page.

Don’t forget Airline and Maritime networks

We know how tempting it is to send those ‘above the clouds’ snaps or ‘I’m on a boat’ selfies but before you Snapchat and Insta those beauties – Airline and Maritime networks aren’t included in Go Roam. That means charges will apply if you connect to them. So, to avoid any dreaded bill shock, why not take the picture then send it once you’ve arrived instead?

Data Roaming

Once you’ve landed in a Go Roam destination, or if you’re planning on using Data Passport, you need to make sure you’ve got data roaming switched on in your phone settings. Not sure how to do that? Don’t worry, you can find everything you need on our support page.

Alright! Now the techy stuff’s taken care of, you can get on with riding that “I’m going on holiday” wave.
