14th October 2022: Today BT announces its latest campaign, The Interruption, featuring Sex Education star, Gillian Anderson, as she interrupts a couple’s evening in to showcase some of the great TV shows available to watch on Netflix with BT TV and broadband. The ad, which will launch today on E4 during Brooklyn Nine-Nine, shows the breadth of content available as BT joins forces with the UK’s favourite streaming provider to offer Netflix across all of its entertainment-based TV and broadband bundles.
The ad begins with a couple relaxing on a sofa with popcorn and snacks. As the show they have been watching comes to an end and they start to discuss what they should watch next, they are unaware that Gillian is in the room with them, primed and ready to give her expert advice.
Suddenly, they are startled as Gillian appears on the sofa opposite them, undertaking her charming, matter-of-fact character from the hit Netflix show, Sex Education, and informing them of the range of great content available on Netflix with BT TV and broadband.
The couple watch as Gillian flicks through a selection of hit TV shows, from sci-fi horror Stranger Things to crime thriller Stay Close, with the couple staring at her, shocked and starstruck. The camera then cuts back to the TV as a scene of Gillian in Sex Education appears on the screen, with the actress playfully suggesting to the man ‘or something more up your street, Clive’, resulting in the man sheepishly looking away.
Finally, the ad cuts to Gillian as she joins the couple on the sofa and asks them to ‘scooch up’, with the three of them settling in to watch the next show.
Pete Jeavons, Marketing Communications Director at BT and EE comments: “Now more than ever people are looking to move to broadband and TV bundles as they search for better value for money, which is why we are delighted to offer Netflix with our entertainment-based TV and broadband packages. As Gillian expertly shows in our latest campaign, with BT TV and broadband there is something for every viewer – whether a sci-fi, crime thriller or comedy fan. Our customers can be safe in the knowledge that they can access great content for even better prices”.
William John, Executive Creative Director, Saatchi & Saatchi said: “BT TV’s offering deserved world class talent to encourage everyone to sit down, scooch up and watch great shows, whatever your taste. Gillian was the perfect person to showcase that there’s something for everyone”.
The 30-second TV advert, developed by EE’s advertising agency, Saatchi & Saatchi London, with media planning and buying handled by Essence, goes live with a nationwide TV campaign on Friday 14th October, during Brooklyn Nine-Nine on E4. The campaign will also run in cinema during the film Black Adam. Additionally, the spot will feature during several other key broadcast slots, including:
- EFL Highlights (ITV) – Sunday 16th October
- The Great British Bake Off (Channel 4) – Tuesday 18th October
- Married At First Sight (E4) – Sunday 23rd October
- The Voice (ITV) – Saturday 29th October
Netflix is now included in each of BT’s entertainment-based TV and broadband bundles (VIP, Big Entertainment and Entertainment), with BT TV and broadband packages available for £6 a month until 2023. BT TV offers flexible TV packages so customers can choose their favourite TV line-up and change it every month, meaning they only pay for the things they actually want to watch.
