Next up, Easter…

The Easter bank holiday is one of our favourites. An excuse to eat loads of chocolate, what’s not to love? When is Good Friday though and is it a bank holiday? With the dates changing every year and Easter eggs appearing in the shops months in advance, it’s difficult to remember. Don’t worry though, we got you!

So, before we give you our suggestions on how to spend the 2018 Easter bank holiday, we’ve pulled together some info to get you clued up on the dates.

What date is Easter?

This year, Good Friday is on 30 March, meaning that Easter Sunday falls on April Fool’s Day (1 April) and Easter Monday’s on 2 April.

Is Good Friday a bank holiday?

Good news! Both Good Friday and Easter Monday are bank holidays so, if you’re lucky enough to get bank holidays off work, how are you planning on spending it?

If like us, you’re going to grab an Easter egg or two, get comfy on the sofa and have a long weekend of TV series and movies, Annihilation, A Series of Unfortunate Events and Marvel’s Jessica Jones are all on Netflix this month. What’s more, customers with 4GB plans and above can relax the whole weekend knowing that thanks to Go Binge, not a single episode or movie will come out of their data allowance, that’s right – not one! If you’re not in on the Go Binge action yet, check out our SIM only deals.

But if you’re still recovering from over-indulging on chocolate at Christmas and the thought of the mountain of Easter eggs rapidly approaching is already making your body groan, why not put the Easter bank holiday weekend to good use and treat yourself to a weekend break away instead?

We know that deciding on where to go can be tricky, so we’ve done some of the leg work for you and have put together 5 of our favourite European cities that are ideal for a weekend break.

Did we mention they’re all Go Roam destinations too? So, your city break can be carefree and you can share as much of it on social media as you like without having to worry about a scary bill when you get home because, let’s face it, the holiday blues are bad enough.

Berlin, Germany

Berlin has more history than you can shake a bratwurst at. From the Reichstag, with its epic rooftop globe where you can get some of the best views across the city, to Muzeumsinsel (Museum Island). If you want to cram in as much as possible then check out the Berlin City Pass; you can get 2, 3 or 6 days’ worth of free entries to museums, unlimited rides on the hop on/off tour buses and skip the queue at the Reichstag and Pergamon museum.

Barcelona, Spain

A city full to the brim with art, culture and some of the most phenomenal architecture about. From wandering down Las Ramblas, taking in the sights and venturing through the Gothic Quarter, sampling some of the best food Barcelona has to offer, to visiting the famous La Segrada Familia and the Salvador Dali museum. Barcelona is definitely on our bucket list.

Rome, Italy

Rome is the third most visited city in Europe and we can see why! It’s iconic and has literally been built on history. A free walking tour is the best way to see the sights and get your steps in for the day! If you’re looking for a more relaxing trip, then the Spanish steps are ideal for an afternoon of people watching with a gelato in hand.

Paris, France

“Paris is always a good idea” – Audrey Hepburn was right and Easter is a perfect time to go. Spring is in the air and the windows of the many patisseries and chocolatiers are filled with pastel coloured macarons, chocolate bunnies and ornate Easter eggs, all looking almost too good to eat…almost. If the sun’s shining and you don’t fancy the usual tourist haunts of the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe, then do what the French do and head outdoors for a stroll along La Seine, or just sit back and watch the world go by in one of the outdoor cafés or terraces.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

This pretty city is a UNESCO world heritage site, and is described by their own tourist board as a “city for all seasons”. The ancient walls that surround the city are spectacular at 2km long and 25m high in places. A walk along them gives you great views over the Old Town and across the Adriatic Sea. Game of Thrones fans – if the terracotta roofed houses in this walled city look vaguely familiar, that’s because Dubrovnik was the filming location for King’s Landing, and there are even tours available to take you round the main filming spots.

So, whether you’re enjoying a Netflix marathon or exploring a new city, enjoy your 2018 Easter bank holiday weekend!
