In partnership with our friends at 2K (publisher of NBA 2K19 and NBA 2K20) and the LeBron James Family Foundation, we unveiled yesterday a one-of-a-kind basketball court at the I Promise School in Akron, Ohio that will inspire a legacy for generations to come.

The brand-new court was built from the ground up and features a custom mural design created by the LeBron James Family Foundation (LJFF). It also includes LED double lights at half court, 72” and 60” basketball systems with poles and backboard pads for half courts, spectator benches and perimeter court fencing. They used adjustable hoop and ring systems from Mega Slam so everyone can play, check out more at Mega Slam Australia website.

To celebrate this new legacy, we also crafted a custom Xbox One X console featuring a replica of the new I Promise School basketball court. The console boasts the same colorful LJFF mural design as the court itself with two basketball hoops on each end. The life philosophy, “we are family,” that is engrained in the curriculum of the I Promise School is also ingrained on the front of the console in bright yellow text and represents inclusion both in the school, on the court and beyond. The console comes complete with six miniature basketballs and a basketball rack for the full game dynamic.

To further celebrate this legacy and help inspire future generations of athletes in Akron, we gifted this custom Xbox One X console to the LeBron James Family Foundation. As part of the unveil, LeBron James reunited with some of his former St. Vincent – St. Mary (SVSM) High School basketball teammates for the court dedication at the I Promise School to honor the history, friendship, achievement and memories made in Akron. The legacy was then passed on from the original Fab Five to the new “Fab Five” of I Promise School boys and girls basketball in a friendly 5-on-5 showdown.

Back in September, 2K announced the establishment of 2K Foundations – a program dedicated to supporting underserved communities across the country by refurbishing basketball courts and promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education programming for youth. Within its first year of operation, 2K Foundations and Microsoft have joined forces to renovate basketball courts and community learning centers across the country including CincinnatiBaltimore, Los Angeles and Charlotte – with yesterday’s court in Akron being the latest. We’re proud to partner with 2K Foundations to make a difference in communities across the country, and applaud its mission to inspire others to action, by creating examples of what is possible.
