We’re extremely excited to announce the Windows Template Studio 3.0!

As always, we love how the community is helping.  If you’re interested, please head over to head over to WTS’s Github.

What’s new:

Full list of adjustments in the 3.0 release, WTS’s Github has a full changelog.

WTS - Project Type

Included in this version:

  • Code now generates as a multi-project solution. This will enable better reuse and separation of code logic. This now will output a UWP project and .NET Core project.
  • Support adding new projects on right click
  • Horizontal Navigation View is replaced the Pivot navigation pattern.
  • Update MVVMLight to use .NET Standard library
  • Bug fixes

Dev platform updates:

  • AdaptiveCards to v1.1.2
  • AppCenter.Analytics to v 1.12.0
  • AppCenter.Crashes to v 1.12.0
  • Services.Store.Engagement to v10.1810.16002
  • UI.Xaml to v2.0.181018003.1
  • Json to v12.0.1
  • UI.for.UniversalWindowsPlatform to v1.0.1.3

Known Issue

  • Visual Studio 2019 Preview support for multi-project has a NuGet reference failure for the Core project. (#2862).  Workaround currently it to manually add the reference.  The only known reference we do is to Newtonsoft.Json in Core.
  • Feedback hub has been removed until a bug has been fixed in their SDK (#2879)

How to get the update:

There are two paths to update to the newest build.

  • Already installed: Visual Studio should auto update the extension. To force an update, Go to Tools->Extensions and Updates.  Then go to Update expander on the left and you should see Windows Template Studio in there and click “Update”
  • Not installed: Head to https://aka.ms/wtsinstall, click “download” and double click the VSIX installer.

What else is cooking for next versions?

We love all the community support and participation.  In addition, here are just a few of the things we are currently building out that will be included in future builds:

  • Menubar navigation pattern template (ETA is v3.1)
  • Identity Login (ETA is v3.1)
  • Improved Visual Studio 2019 support
  • Azure features starting to be added in (v3.1 and beyond)
  • Unit Test projects

With partnership with the community, we’ve continue cranking out and iterating new features and functionality.  We’re always looking for additional people to help out and if you’re interested, please head to our GitHub at https://aka.ms/wts.  If you have an idea or feature request, please make the request!
