Since the Escape Mode DLC launch last year, things have been a little quiet for Prison Architect on Xbox One. That’s changing today, as Double Eleven launch The Shovel, their first free update since Paradox Interactive took over the Prison Architect brand in January. If you’re not already on the bandwagon, Xbox Live Gold members can play Prison Architect for free as part of Free Play Days from 12:01 a.m. on November 21 until midnight (PST) on November 24. During this time, Gold members can also take advantage of discounts of 50% off Prison Architect or 60% off the Escape Mode Bundle.

The free update brings 30 new items, 6
new wall types, and 2 new floor tiles, as well as a range of gameplay tweaks to
both the base game and the popular Escape Mode DLC.

These free items include a range of new
lights, trees and plants, furniture and decorative objects for your rooms and
interactable items such as an arcade machine. The update also includes the
much-asked-for ‘visitation booth’, so you can now change up the way your
inmates spend time with their family. For a full list of the new items added to
the game, you can check out more information on Double
Eleven’s website
.

At Paradox’s annual fan convention,
PDXCON, Double Eleven shared the sentiment that they hadn’t forgotten about
console players, and support would continue going forward. What that means for
the future you’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, there’s plenty for
budding wardens to sink their teeth into.

You can follow Prison Architect on Twitter or join the conversation with other fans on Discord.
