TankBowl has returned to World of Tanks for 2018! This clash of titans pits two mighty nations against each other, with tank commanders siding with either the USA or the USSR, and duking it out for honor, glory, and prizes.
We know that going headlong into a battleground can be daunting, even when you’re backed up with a massive, heavy metal war machine. With that in mind, we’ve put together some tips to help you get the edge over your competition and dominate the battlefield during TankBowl. Here are five things to keep in mind before you join the fray in World of Tanks!
- Choose Wisely
Whether you’re deciding to align with the USSR or the USA or just selecting your tank, the best approach is to play to your strengths. You’re going to want to hit the battlefield in a tank that suits your playstyle and one that you’re familiar with, rather than making sense of uncharted territory with a new vehicle. If you’re looking to run rings around your enemies, the USSR’s T-34 or USA’s M4A3E8 Sherman will serve you well. If the thought of going out in a blaze of glory doesn’t faze you, the T29 and IS are suited to more offensive playstyles, but more tactical minds may lean towards the defensive potential of the T67 or SU-100.
- Platoon with Allies
You’ll score high with a little help from your friends! Team play will absolutely help during TankBowl, from effectively communicating with allies in the heat of battle, to rolling out with friends and developing a strategy to outflank your opponents. It’s always more fun when you’re playing with friends, and having a dependable squad at your back when you’re storming through an enemy base is crucial if you’ve got your eyes on the prize.
- Mind Your Surroundings
Fact: diving headfirst into an all-out warzone is the number one cause of tank explosions in World of Tanks. When you’re heading into battle, you need to know your surroundings. You can survey the map before a battle to plan out potential vantage points, or note areas to avoid. However, be sure to check your surroundings and your minimap during battle to avoid getting knocked out. Steer clear of open spaces, and use the terrain to your advantage by taking shelter, hiding, or peeking out from behind ridges to get a take a safe shot.
- Optimize Your Tank
Adapt your tank for the challenge ahead by kitting it out with useful equipment and camo. Rammers increase your rate of fire and allow you to dish out more damage over the course of a match, while Vertical Stabilizers can steady your aim when you’re running-and-gunning. On the other hand, Camo can help you become one with the battlefield — while it’s not an all-purpose cloaking device, it presents the opportunity to attack the enemy from a hidden spot without giving away your location.
- Practice Makes Perfect
If you’re seeing your dreams of TankBowl glory go down in flames a little too often, don’t be afraid to take a step back from the main battlefield to work on your approach. There are plenty of ways to practice before heading into the main event: you can fall back into War Stories to take on some AI, refine your playstyle in Training Grounds, or go toe-to-toe with some friends to improve your skills. Take any failure as a lesson — and remember to have fun!
TankBowl 2018 is raging on now, so choose a side, jump in a tank, and show the enemy what you’re made of. The battlefield awaits! For more details, check out the full announcement here.
