“Good morning gods, immortals, and new recruits!
The breaking news is spreading all over Aelion. Today our scientists and leaders have finally opened the ranks of our forces for everyone to join. From now on we are welcoming anyone who can’t let people suffer from otherworldly invaders to join our cause and defend our home…”
I bet this is what you can hear right now from the transmitters all over Aelion, the planet attacked by invaders in Skyforge, the new sci-fi fantasy action MMORPG, that goes into full free-to-play release today on Xbox One.
For new players, this is a great opportunity to simply explore and enjoy a new world, but there are some things that I would like to make sure that you don’t miss as you take your first steps on Aelion.
The Campaign
Skyforge is a story of the liberation of Aelion’s people from enemy invaders. You will have to defeat alien armies and fight former allies who support them. An important part of the campaign is the progression to unlock new bastions while the conclusion of the whole campaign awards you with… a divine form!
You start as an immortal, but your goal will be to become a god. So the campaign is what you need to unlock your divine form, which in turn opens the way to improved stats, cool new character looks, and ultimate abilities. So make sure to follow the missions on the campaign map and liberate Aelion. Simply press the Change View button on your controller at any time to open the campaign map or open the Main Menu and navigate to the “Campaign” menu entry.
The Class System
Skyforge offers a total of 15 different classes for you to unlock and switch to at any time during the game. From the start, you will already have three classes unlocked: Cryomancer (DPS), Paladin (Tank), and Lightbinder (Support). If you purchase a Founder Pack during Early Access, you’ll have access to the Gunner and the Berserker class.
I suggest that you give all these classes a try during the tutorial in Flavius’ lab. They all play profoundly different, but still, allow you to enjoy the game even if you are playing alone. Pick the one that you enjoy the most to get started in the world of Aelion.
After you make your first steps, I recommend trying to master all three starter classes. Having the ability to play different classes will make you a much more helpful member of any group. It allows you to switch to whatever your group needs at any given moment and can make the difference between failing the last boss fight by a sliver of health and successfully completing an instance.
As you progress further in the game, you will acquire resources to unlock the temples of different game classes. In Skyforge you can play 15 classes and switch them on the fly. No need to create a new character to try a different specialization. Simply select the class you want and switch from a Necromancer to an Outlaw or a Revenant in the blink of an eye.
Turn Enemy Weapons Against Them
Skyforge is an action-packed game and the combat system is a lot of fun. And it’s not only about dashing and evading, laying down brutal combos, and using powerful ultimate abilities, but also about the ability to use your enemies’ weapons (and sometimes also their body parts) against them. Bring down an enemy, and they have a chance of dropping powerful weapons that don’t only look cool but also deal a lot of damage. One might even say tons of damage. So don’t ignore them. Make sure to pick them up and use whenever you can to decimate your foes. After all, they may drop yet another mighty weapon.
Heal Yourself
While we have some designated Support classes, there are no dedicated healers in Skyforge. Nobody will hold your hand and follow you around to keep your health up. Instead, killed monsters will leave health orbs behind that restore a small portion of your health, but you may sometimes need to dash right into the enemy positions to pick them up. You’ll have to figure out the most effective battle strategy – avoid enemy attacks, pick up their weapons, keep an eye on your health, gather the health orbs, and you’ll be fine.
Progress with Prestige
Progressing your character in Skyforge nets you Prestige. Prestige is an indicator of your overall viability as an Immortal (or god) and is gained by acquiring additional Might, as well as more powerful equipment that lets you stand out amongst the many Immortals on Aelion. The more Prestige you have, the higher your Prestige level becomes. And while there are no hard limitations that will prevent you from trying difficult content that’s maybe a bit above your current Prestige, it gives you a good indicator when you are looking for the most suitable content.
Know how to get your equipment
In Skyforge, equipment comes in different quality levels: uncommon, rare, epic and legendary. The first two rarities are available from the start of the game. You will obtain uncommon items by participating in the main adventures and rare items by participating in group adventures. The epic and legendary gear can only be obtained by participating in challenging battles against raid bosses, or with a bit of luck from regular encounters. So, make sure you spend some time on obtaining standout equipment.
Use Bastions to get more Might
It’s possible to increase your Might level in three different buildings: The Cathedral, the Tower of Knowledge and Bastions. The biggest increase to your Might is granted by the Bastions which you can unlock by completing all the main adventures of each region.
Bastions allow you to access special quests, the completion of which will not only increase your might but also grant you access to special symbols that further empower your character.
Create or join a Pantheon for the full immortal experience
Besides inviting players to your group or adding them to your friend list, you can found a Pantheon – Skyforge’s equivalent of guilds. You can level up your Pantheon and unlock more features as you add more players to your ranks. Take your Pantheon members on especially challenging raids and into PvP and make a name for yourself on the battlefield.
Or if you are the more cautious type, you can join a Pantheon’s academy, where you can acquaint yourself with the Pantheon life, before you may be invited as a full member. Simply open the main menu and navigate to “Pantheon” to get started.
And the last thing before you jump into the game – don’t skip the training!
This may seem like a pretty obvious advice, but really – spend some time on understanding how things work in Skyforge. The tutorial teaches you things as you progress through the game and will constantly unlock new features and options until you unlock your god form.
Once the tutorial drops you in Flavius’ lab, make sure to take your time there. Flavius is a nice guy to spend some time with, and learning about the different classes and giving them a try is time well spent. It won’t take you more than a couple of minutes and it will be worth every single one of them once you throw yourself into battle and can outwit your enemies by not just having classes unlocked and being able to switch them, but also by being able to understand and use them.
And that’s it. Just a handful of things to pay special attention to. In closing this blog article, I would like to wish you a great time in Skyforge. I hope you will enjoy playing the game as much as we enjoy making it. And always remember: Be awesome. Have fun in Skyforge and see you on Aelion.
