North Star, Rainbow Six Siege’s latest season, is out now on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. North Star introduces Thunderbird – a new defending Operator with a unique healing gadget – as well as a rework to the Favela map, changes to bullet holes and bodies, and updates to gadgets for Mira, Maestro, Melusi, and Smoke. Thunderbird is available now as part of the Year 6 Season 2 Battle Pass, or purchasable with R6 credits in two weeks. All other updates are free and out now.
Thunderbird is from the Nakoda Nation – a North American First Nation – and can provide a valuable boost to Defenders thanks to her Kóna Stations. The stations can be deployed around the map, and will shoot out a healing boost to any Operator who comes in range. Damaged Operators will be healed, while full health Operators will be temporarily overhealed. Downed Operators in range of a Kóna Station can be revived, but Thunderbird players will need to be careful where they’re placed, because any Operator – Defender or Attacker – can use Kóna Stations for healing. Thunderbird is a high-speed, low-armor Operator, and comes packing a Spear .308 or SPAS-15 primary weapon and Bearing-9 or Q-929 sidearm.
The Favela map has received a rework and will be free for all players. Most exterior walls are now indestructible, meaning Attackers will now have to move through windows and doors, or the two rooftop stairway entries. The floorplan has also been reworked to be more navigable and interconnected.
Finally, new gameplay updates are now in effect, including two that will affect all players. Starting now, a single bullet hole in a destructible wall will not make a hole big enough to see through, and dead Operator bodies will disappear after a short time and be replaced with a transparent icon. Specific Operators are also seeing changes, as the bulletproof glass on Mira’s Black Mirrors and Maestro’s Evil Eyes can now be shattered from a melee strike. The glass will still be in place, but opaque. Additionally, Melusi’s Banshees can now be destroyed with bullets when active, and Smoke’s toxic gas will be more translucent, and spread more naturally.
