Q.U.B.E. 2 is supporting the Xbox One X straight out of the box so we thought we’d share our experience on why the Xbox One X is the perfect way to experience the beautiful world of Q.U.B.E. 2.
One of our major focuses when developing the game was to take the mundane cubes of the first game and craft beautiful and lush environments. Although the game looks great on Xbox One S, Xbox One X allowed us to drastically increase the graphical quality of lighting, particles, and environments. This gives players the opportunity to become fully immersed in the world that we, the developers, wanted to create, and significantly adds to a deeper gaming experience.
In the prequel, Q.U.B.E., the environments were minimal and often simple white-paneled rooms. While we decided to keep this core aesthetic in the sequel, we wanted to evolve this style to add more feeling, color, and more variety to make each area feel special
Our art team has done an incredible job of pushing the original style of Q.U.B.E. as far as possible, and this is especially evident when you compare the original game art to our current environments as shown in these screenshots. We’re supporting Xbox One X Enhanced with 4K Ultra HD so this optimization only highlights that visual improvement further. Q.U.B.E. 2 also natively switches to 4K resolution when a 4K television is detected when playing on the Xbox One X, which enables super sharp edging and a crystal-clear focus of the game world.
Additionally, due to the higher performance and steadier framerates of the Xbox One X, we found it a joy to develop for as it allows the game to run smoothly on ultra-high graphical settings, which we were unable to achieve on previous versions.
Q.U.B.E. 2 is available today, March 13 on Xbox One. You can watch our full gameplay trailer here to get a better idea of what to expect.
