7 Ways to Keep Calm During the Hectic Holiday Season

7 Ways to Keep Calm During the Hectic Holiday Season

7 Ways to Keep Calm During the Hectic Holiday SeasonHere we go: we’re at the top of the roller coaster about to plummet straight into the hustle and bustle of holiday season! Some years it feels like Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s aren’t so much festive celebrations as anxiety-inducing events I have to white-knuckle my way through.

So how did the season of gratitude and love become rife with stress and panic? For me, social pressure and my own unnecessarily high standards resulted in way too much worry over getting things “right.” But when I finally become aware of how the anticipation of the holidays negatively affected my actual experience of the holidays, I was able to let go of perfection and immerse myself in the fun.

I encourage you to do the same thing and transform the way you navigate these final few months of the year. Not sure how to start? Here are seven ways to find calm during a chaotic holiday season:

1. Find Your Focus

Before you launch into go-mode, take a deep breath and consider what the holidays are really all about. It may feel like parties, treats, and gifts are the sole motivators for surviving the season, but remember the things that truly matter: friends, family, kindness, and love (and okay, good food doesn’t hurt).

2. Stick to a Schedule

The quickest way for me to go nuts is to get off track with my regular routine. To avoid crankiness, I stick as closely to my regular eating and moving schedules as possible. That means, even during that notoriously indulgent break between Thanksgiving and Christmas, I maintain business as usual when I can. My Fitbit tracker is super helpful here—it allows me to keep logging my workouts and sleep, and the consistent reminders to move (and breathe!) make a big difference.

3. Make Sleep a Priority

I have a tendency to stay up late during the holidays, trying to get everything done. But the best thing I can do is get a good night’s sleep and leave any outstanding tasks until the morning. That endless list of to-dos is always there when I wake up and I’m so much more prepared to tackle it when I’m not groggy.

4. Go Easy on the Booze

Party pooper alert! I know, I know, but I’m not saying you should ban all adult beverages; you should just know your limits. Alcohol is a depressant, which means it not only disrupts your sleep, but it wreaks havoc on your body and brain the next day—and don’t get me started on how it lowers your inhibitions, leading to everything from overeating to accidental gossip at the dinner table. Pre-select which events you feel are worthy of a drink, and imbibe wisely (no, you can’t choose all days ending in Y).

5. Stay Grateful

Here I go with the cliches, but…If I stay in a space of gratitude, I look at every event as an opportunity as opposed to a responsibility. So much of life is what goes on between our ears, and if we can influence our thoughts to be positive, then why not do everything possible to swing things in our favor?

6. Recognize the Insanity

Let’s face it, no matter how Zen we try to be, the holidays are just kind of crazy-making. And that’s okay! Acknowledge the chaos, confide in a friend, cry it out if you have to, and then hit the reset button. I personally rely on 5-minute meditation breaks to maintain my sanity. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy or formal—sometimes just sitting in my car in the mall parking lot, focusing on my breath with the Relax feature on my Fitbit tracker, is enough to get re-centered.

7. When All Else Fails…Hide

This might sound silly, but hiding is one of my go-to coping strategies—and I know I’m not the only one! I’m not talking about a week-long escape to a private island (although that sounds amazing)—I mean grabbing a moment to myself somewhere in my house, away from all the friends, family, kids, and plus-ones. An abundance of loved ones is incredibly special, but it can also feel super intense, so hiding out for a few minutes can bring sweet relief. I highly recommend integrating your own mini hiding sessions into the holiday season—you’ll feel like you’re getting away with a sneaky secret, and the moment of peace will replenish your spirit (and patience).

Here’s to your health, happiness, and a stress-free holiday season!

Celebrate Our National Cat Obsession with the Cast of Super Lucky’s Tale

November 7, the fabled launch date of Super Lucky’s Tale and the Xbox One X… but that’s not important right now, because it’s time to make room in your schedules and hearts for the age-old tradition of #NationalCatDay!

Um…wait a second. That was yesterday. Shoot. Let’s pretend like it’s today, shall we?

If it were in fact National Cat Day, that momentous occasion uniting cat lovers across the country, we’d have some important things to say. Of all the platitudes that come to mind, two things rise to the top:

1. The internet sure loves cats.
2. For a game about a fox, Super Lucky’s Tale sure has a lot of speaking parts for cats.

Internet, meet the Kitty Litter.

Over the past week you may have seen some of the videos we created to introduce the comically mischievous, proudly feline antagonists of Super Lucky’s Tale to the world. For example, there’s Master Mittens, a ninja who takes himself a little too seriously. Tess is an inventor with a flair for blowing herself up. And don’t forget Lady Meowmalade, who was furious to hear her upcoming debut would only be in 4K at 60 frames a second (“Next time make it 8K!” she hissed).

If you’re reading this post, it means you’re on the internet, which means you must love cats, so in a sense these videos were made for you. Did I mention the lovable buffoons General Buttons and Colonel Fluffy? Or Jinx, the father of the litter who’s exasperated at his children’s laughable attempts to follow his nefarious orders? If you missed the video debuts of the Kitty Litter, you can watch ‘em all above.

We also love cats. Making Super Lucky’s Tale gave us the chance to not only create a fun, delightful platforming game that hearkened back to the classic mascot platformers we grew up with, but the opportunity to cartoonify cats into the mad geniuses they probably already are. We think their catty personality plays well off of Lucky’s innocent charm, but you’ll have to let us know what you think.

So as we wait for Super Lucky’s Tale to debut on the Xbox One family of devices this November 7, we have just one question for you:

What would your cat’s supervillain name be?

Ford Performance and Xbox Collaborate on Custom F-150 Raptor to Appear at SEMA and in Forza Motorsport 7

In celebration of the November 7 launch of the Xbox One X, Ford Performance and Xbox have teamed up to create a specially-modified Xbox One X version of the new F-150 Raptor which will be showcased this week at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas. In addition, early next year, this version of the F-150 Raptor will be available for free to Forza Motorsport 7 players within the game.

“The Xbox One X is the world’s most powerful console,” said Henry Ford III, Ford Performance Marketing Manager. “It’s the benchmark in the console gaming world, while F-150 Raptor is its equivalent in the world of pickup trucks.”

“We have long enjoyed and valued our partnership with Ford Performance and feel privileged to work with them on the incredible F-150 Raptor, an iconic American legend,” said Mike Humphreys, Senior Director, Business and Partnerships for Forza Franchise, Turn 10 Studios. “The Ford Raptor is built on top of another iconic legend, the Ford F-150 pickup, resulting in technical excellence and off-road innovations that make it a Forza fan favorite.”

The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor Xbox One X Edition boasts unique graphics, paint, and upholstery inspired by the console’s internal code name, “Project Scorpio,” as well as the Raptor’s desert racing heritage. Custom wheels, bumpers, chase rack and LED lighting in Xbox’s signature green complete the look. Performance-enhancing modifications include a Fabtech six-inch lift kit, upgraded Alcon brakes, Addictive Desert Designs intercooler and Ford Performance Borla exhaust.

The partnership between Ford Performance and Xbox showcases storied brands with deep roots in performance. Whether it’s a track-shredding supercar taking on competitors at Le Mans, or the world’s most powerful gaming console that’s the best place to play gaming’s biggest blockbusters, fans win with some of the best products on the market today.

The partnership between Ford and Forza goes back over a dozen years to the first Forza Motorsport and the original Xbox. Today, Forza features more Ford vehicles than any other video game, with the Fiesta ST, Focus RS, Mustang GT 350, F-150 Raptor and Ford GT each making their video game debut in the Forza series, the latter two as cover cars.

For additional details on the Xbox One X Raptor and other Ford SEMA project vehicles, visit media.ford.com.

Stay tuned to Forzamotorsport.net for updates about when the F-150 Raptor will be on its way to Forza Motorsport 7 players.

Forza Motorsport 7 is currently available as an Xbox Play Anywhere title (Xbox One and Windows 10 PC versions included with a single digital purchase at no additional cost) and is releasing on the Xbox One X on November 7 when players will be able to experience it in native 4K and HDR at 60FPS.
