iOS 11 was released this week and with it comes hundreds of new features for iPhone and iPad including an all new App Store, “Do Not Disturb While Driving” features, improvements to Camera and Photos. Plus loads more.

New App Store

• The newly designed App Store makes it easier than ever to find new games & apps

• Siri is now more natural and expressive
• Translate English words and phrases into Chinese, French, German, Italian or Spanish (beta)
• Siri works with notes apps to create to-do lists, notes and reminders

Camera

• Portrait mode now supports optical image stabilization, HDR and True Tone flash
• Photos and videos will take up half the space with the new HEIF and HEVC image and video formats

Photos

• Loop, Bounce, and Long Exposure Live Photo effects
• Mute, trim, or choose a new key photo for Live Photos
• Animated GIF support

Maps

• Indoor maps for major airports and shopping centers
• Lane guidance and speed limit information with Turn-by-turn directions

Do Not Disturb while Driving

• Automatically silences notifications while driving and keeps iPhone silent and display off
• Optional iMessage auto reply to alert selected contacts that you’re driving
• With an ever increasing focus on driver and passenger safety while driving, this is a feature we suspect will be of benefit to many, if not all, drivers.

iOS 11 for iPad

iOS 11 is also the biggest release for iPad ever and adds powerful new multitasking features, a new Files app and more ways to use Apple Pencil. See below for some of our top picks:

1. Open the ‘Settings’ app
2. Go to ‘General’
3. Tap on ‘Software Update’
4. Initiate the download / installation
   NOTE: We’d recommend doing this either with a full battery or while charging via the mains
