All aboard the Battle Bus!

Today, we’re excited to invite you to our Fortnite Fridays community nights, a weekly in-person gaming series featuring Fortnite: Battle Royale. Fortnite Fridays begin tomorrow, April 20 from 5:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. local time at your local Microsoft Store ASUS ROG Arena. We recently announced that we’re growing the games lineup at ASUS ROG Arena to give you more opportunities to meet up and play your favorite titles, and Fortnite’s unique gameplay and rapidly expanding community make it the perfect fit.

Fortnite Fridays Bring in-Person Competition to Fortnite

We can’t wait to see players competing at our events with that Victory Royale on the line – and maybe bust out some sweet dance emotes if they’re feeling flashy! You’ll be eligible to take home the grand prize of gift cards applicable towards 2,500 V-Bucks in Fortnite: Battle Royale each week, depending on how high you place and how many opponents you eliminate each round. Attendees will play on high-powered ASUS Republic of Gamers PCs, and Xbox Wireless Controllers will be provided upon request. You’ll be able to put those fancy building skills to use whether you play on PC or console at home.

Fortnite Fridays Schedule

  • Solos: Every Friday, April 20 – Friday, May 11
  • Duos: Every Friday, May 18 – Friday, June 8
  • Squads: Every Friday, June 15 – Friday, July 6

Local Communities Join In on the Fun

Like so many others, Tennessee Titans cornerback Adoree’ Jackson has fallen for Fortnite: Battle Royale. He’ll be competing against kids from Hillsboro High School and The Boys & Girls Clubs of America as part of a Fortnite Fridays event at Microsoft Store at Mall at Green Hills in Nashville, Tennessee, tomorrow, April 20 starting at 5:30 p.m. CDT. Anyone can come and watch the kids take on Adoree’.

Sign up today to play with your local gaming community at Microsoft Store locations across the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, and Australia, beginning Friday, April 20. You can also check out Mixer.com/MicrosoftStore and the Microsoft Store Facebook page for details on our other gaming events, including Overwatch: Flash Ops and League of Legends nights at ASUS ROG Arena.

Pro Players Weigh In on First Timer’s Guide for In-person Gaming

For those who love to play games and are considering getting together with their local gaming community, we’ve put together a First-Timer’s Guide for in-person gaming events. Here are some exclusive tips from esports pros such as Aaron “Ace” Elam and Justin Kenny to make it as easy – and fun – as possible to jump in.

  • Be Confident: “A piece of advice for someone playing in their first tournament would be to have confidence/believe in yourself! Trust in yourself that you’re going to play your best and don’t fear anyone.” – Aaron “Ace” Elam
  • Be Responsible: “I always make sure that I am responsible the night before and get to sleep at an appropriate time to make sure I am not tired during matches. I also make sure that I eat light meals throughout the day so that I don’t feel sluggish, but I have enough energy to be as active and focused as I need to be.” – Justin Kenny
  • Be Positive: “Have a positive attitude/be the teammate you want your teammates to be.” – Justin Kenny
  • Be Prepared: “Properly prepare for every tournament for as long as possible. This goes for individually or with a team.” – Justin Kenny
  • Be Realistic: “Don’t set high expectations, just go to the tournament and do the best you can. Look at that first performance/placing as your starting point and afterwards work on improving and becoming better than that. Nobody is going to walk into their first tournament and win.” – Justin Kenny
  • Be in the Moment: “Have fun. Not too much fun since you are there to compete, but this is a cool opportunity for you to meet and network with people who for the most part have similar interests. Events only happen so often, so it’s a cool opportunity to meet some new people.” – Paul “SnakeBite” Duarte
  • Be a Team Player: “My team always takes it one team at a time. Paying attention to the whole bracket may make you underestimate the team you are facing in your upcoming match.” – Paul “SnakeBite” Duarte
  • Be Yourself: “For people competing in their first tournament, they are going to have nerves. Being nervous is absolutely OK going into your matches, I still show signs of being nervous after competing for nine years.” – Ryan “Ryanoob” Geddes, Halo FFA World Champion 2018
  • Be Focused: “I only focus on the team I am playing next. I don’t theorycraft about what I need to do to beat the team I’m playing after, I focus on what I need to do to beat the team I am playing now.” – Ryan “Ryanoob” Geddes, Halo FFA World Champion 2018
