Disco Elysium – The Final Cut is available now for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Our award-winning open world RPG and its revolutionary dialogue system gives you a huge amount of freedom as you explore a whole city block in a massive murder mystery. The Final Cut version adds full voice acting and political vision quests to make the game even bigger and better. We can’t wait for you to experience it today!
It all starts with your detective waking up in his underwear with his memories destroyed by a nasty hangover. Not the easiest situation to tackle on a Monday morning. But it gets worse, as you discover that you’re supposed to be in this part of the city to hunt down a murderer. Why have you been partying so hard and where do you go from here?
It’s up to you whether you find and interrogate witnesses, explore the streets and apartments for clues, or get distracted by the many side quests like hunting down an ultra-fashionable tracksuit (it’s so worth it). You can even choose to walk around in your underwear and continue last night’s party if you wish. Just expect to get some confused comments from the people you meet.
Not everything will turn out exactly the way you want in Disco Elysium. This is due to your success in some of the more important moments being determined by dice rolls, like in tabletop RPGs. For example, if you want to come up with an artistic idea to impress the young rebel Cindy, you’ll need to roll a certain number with the dice. If you fail then don’t worry, as you can try again later or find some other way to achieve your goal. It might even be easier the second time around because Cindy might feel sorry for you.
That’s not the only reason we encourage you to embrace failure in Disco Elysium, though – it’s in the failure scenarios that some of the funniest parts are found. For example, if you try to avoid paying for your room at the hostel by running away like a rockstar and fail, you’ll dive into the air and spin around to give the manager two middle fingers before crashing into a woman in a wheelchair. It’s still quite rockstar, in its own way…
If you do keep failing then we recommend that you level up your skills as that opens up new solutions to your problems. You have 24 skills in total and each corresponds to one of your detective’s physical or mental abilities, such as Logic and Hand/Eye Coordination. What you might find surprising is that the skills are personified and talk to you as voices inside your head. It’s up to you whether you listen to their advice or spend several minutes arguing with them.
That’s not the only thing you’ll do inside your detective’s head. We have the Thought Cabinet, which is a place where you can cook ideas you come across until they become a full-fledged thought. Thoughts usually come with both positives and negatives so you’ll have to balance them carefully. Positives include opening up new dialogue options and raising skill level caps. While negatives can be reducing your empathy or receiving damage when you voice certain opinions.
