Have you ever played a racing game and thought to yourself: “I wish I could put a jet engine on this car. Maybe two … or five?” If you just said “YES!” out loud, then today is your lucky day because Trailmakers is launching onto Xbox One Game Preview.
In Trailmakers you build your own vehicles out of building blocks, and pilot them through challenging race courses. You start out building a simple go-kart, but will eventually make buggies, jet cars and even airplanes. If everything goes as planned, your building skills will follow your driving skills and you’ll be an expert in no time.
Creating something simple is easy, but if you want to be a champion you need to optimize and perfect your vehicle. Putting four wheels and an engine on a chassis will hardly get you on the podium. Here are a few tips for you, Xbox Wire reader, but don’t go blabbering about it everywhere or your record times will soon be beaten:
- First, you will want to keep a low center of mass on your vehicle so place the heavy parts such as engines close to the ground without scraping it of course.
- Second, if your car is sliding all over the place, put some more spoilers on it to create downforce, and make sure your tires fit the race track’s terrain. Using racing slicks on an off-road track is just asking for trouble.
If by now your mind is wandering, thinking about building something exceptionally crazy, we have just the thing for you: In the Sandbox game mode you can experiment to your heart’s desire, and find out exactly what happens when you reach supersonic speed. Nothing is off limits here, which is why you should definitely put that cannon on top of that spinning servo.
We can’t wait to see what you create in Trailmakers, so make sure to upload your best vehicles to the Gallery for everyone to see and try. All creations in the Gallery can be downloaded, modified, and piloted. Here at the studio, we download our favorites every week and show them off on our Friday developer stream. Come say hi on mixer.com/PlayTrailmakers.
