Thinkladder | iOS, £2.99

Best new apps for November 2017: This month’s must-have downloads
Here’s a scary stat: the UN predicts the number of city-dwellers living with anxiety will increase by two thirds within the next 33 years. With the demand for mental health services also increasing, one kiwi couple – Matt and Katie Gatt – quit their jobs to do something about it. That something is cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) app Thinkladder. It’s a collaboration between writers, therapists and creatives, and it’s enabling users to pinpoint the unhelpful beliefs that are holding them back and replace them with empowering alternatives.

The Dealer App | iOS, Android, FREE
Fancy saving up to 50 per cent on your restaurant bill? If you’re seeking food, drinks or entertainment in Manchester, Cambridge, Oxford, Liverpool or Swansea it pays to check with The Dealer first. As well as scoring exclusive discounts, The Dealer App also gives you the option of donating a proportion of your discount to a local charity so you can feel even better about your dining decisions.

PartyWith | iOS, Android, FREE

The party never stops with PartyWith on your home screen. Use the app to discover what’s on around you, meet new people and let the good times roll.

Outwalk | iOS, Android, FREE
How far will you go to beat your mates? Find out as you up your fitness with new activity tracking app Outwalk. Operating the background, Outwalk automatically counts your every step and provides up-to-date measurements of the distance you run, walk or jog. Create challenges and use the in-app chat function to share your activity with your friends. Plus, as you progress you’ll unlock badges – a nice wee motivator to keep pounding those pavements.

Apollo Reddit Client | iOS, FREE

Unsatisfied with the quality of apps available for browsing ‘the front page of the internet’ on iOS, former Apple intern Christian Selig decided to build his own one-stop Reddit client. Christian says he built his app for beauty, speed and power. Features include a super-charged media viewer, a tabbed interface for easy navigation, dark mode and fully customisable gestures. And after three years of development shaped by user input, feedback from Redditors has been pretty positive to date. Christian says the app will continue to evolve. So, if there is anything you’d particularly like to see, be sure to let him know via the ApolloApp subreddit.

Loinnir | Android, FREE
This new social network for the Irish speaking community aims to keep the Irish Gaelic language alive by linking Irish speakers with others in their area. As well as helping speakers identify others around them, Lonnir also offers a random chat feature that pairs users from different parts of the world – allowing them to converse in Irish wherever they happen to be. It’s not just for fluent speakers, either; creators say it’s ideal for learners too. So go on and get your Gaelic on. Lesson one: Loinnir itself means ‘radiance’.
