Nostalgaia is a world full of familiarity, but this quest is unlike any you’ve experienced before. From falling cows to rainbow roads, today we’re all incredibly excited for players to check out The Last Hero of Nostalgaia. As its last remaining hero, it’s up to you to stop a spreading pixelation rendering everyone and everything into decay. Let’s be honest, no one wants that.

As you may have seen from our announcement trailer at the ID@Xbox Twitch Showcase back in December, The Last Hero of Nostalgaia is arriving on Xbox as a Console Launch Exclusive. It takes inspiration from the complex systems you’ve encountered in other Souls-likes and imbues them with nostalgia, humor, and narrative mechanics, rich in lore.

In this world you won’t just have to contend against ferocious bosses and menacing mobs, you’ll also have to decide who to trust amongst an eclectic cast of truly bizarre characters. On top of that, there’s a cynical narrator commentating on the action, taking every opportunity to mock, belittle and even cast unexpected dangers and diversions onto your path.

Peril comes at you from all sides in The Last Hero of Nostalgaia, but, fortunately, you can bring a buddy along to fight by your side with online campaign co-op. Progress even carries across to their playthrough. It can be very dangerous to go alone out there, but as the old saying goes: two stick heroes are better than one!

Before you begin your adventure, you’ll need to make a choice between five distinct classes, each offering a slightly different approach to the way you play. The noble Datadin, for instance, favors the sword and shield and is stalwart in every sense of the word, whilst the Randomaster plays very differently and takes advantage of Nostalgaia’s completely unique luck-based mechanics.

In Nostalgaia there’s a class to suit all types, whether you prefer to get up close and personal with daggers and axes or like to sit back from distance and pepper your enemies into submission with magic. The game has been designed to make you feel right at home.

Since this is the world of video games, you may encounter some familiar trinkets or a notable reference that harkens back to something you’ve played before. It could be a picture on a wall, a location you visit, even a weapon you hold in your hand or a piece of armor you wear. Keep your eyes peeled.

While you may pick up on a thing or two, the big problem facing Nostalgaia is that its inhabitants are forgetting everything around them. Even their own names. Fortunately, your heroic abilities are such that you can help them “remember” and unlock their true potential.

For example, the lost and confused blacksmith will need some guidance on how to help you. Find him, guide him, and eventually he’ll be able to turn your basic, blunt armaments into the deadliest, most powerful weapons in the game.

The same goes for the items you carry. Stand in the right spot or interact with the relevant person and you’ll find that when you next open up your inventory, an item might be rumbling. Tap on it to remember and suddenly that faded, pixelated sword you’ve been carrying around for the last few hours is highly detailed, has a new ability, and is stronger than ever.

There are plenty of surprises, twists and turns that await you in The Last Hero of Nostalgaia but we’ll leave you to discover those for yourselves. We can’t wait to hear more about your strategies, preferred armor, weapons, and builds.

The Last Hero of Nostalgaia is now available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10 stores.
