Millions of Simmers have created all kinds of stories in The Sims 4. They’ve designed amazing homes, brought unique Sims to life, and discovered new experiences and ideas through playing with life.

If you’re already part of the massive — and massively talented — Sims player community, thank you. The Sims 4 couldn’t be what it is without your support and passion for the game. From September 14 to October 17, the Desert Luxe Kit will be available for owners of the base game to claim as a gift.

To get you ready for what’s in store, here’s 5 reasons to start playing The Sims 4 once it becomes a free download on October 18:

1: It’s Amazing for Character Creation

Some games let you customize one character. The Sims 4 lets you create as many as you want.

Make yourself, your friends, characters from your favorite shows, or your own original characters. Every time you make a Sim you’ll customize every aspect from their personality traits to their life aspirations, to what their favorite colors are. It’s all up to you.

Sims’ appearances are also yours to style. There is a large selection of customizable facial features, numerous hair options, and clothing for every fashion sense.

Make Sims you’ll love, Sims who have depth, goals, and their own personality quirks. Or make Sims you don’t like and take away the ladder to their pool. Whatever suits your fancy.

2: It’s Like if Home Improvement Shows Were Playable

Build your dream home, or a home you think your Sim would love. You plan the layout, choose the furniture, and you can even do the landscaping. Want to give your flower child Sim a sprawling garden? Or your irritable loner Sim a basement to chill in? Go for it.

Build from scratch or renovate existing lots — you’re in control of how detailed (or not) you want your design experience to be. Hate what you’ve done with the place? Scrap it and rebuild.

Or let them tough it out on an empty lot for a while.

3: You’ll Experience More Life

The Sims 4 is all about playing with life. It’s your choices that shape your Sims’ lives, and these choices go way beyond what they wear or what sofa they have.

In your game, Sims will be born and die. They’ll have childhoods that set them up for success (or not) because of how you guide them and their parents. They’ll pursue careers where they could rise to the top or get fired depending on how you have them behave day to day. They’ll even fall in love and grow their families if that’s what you steer them towards.

Playing The Sims 4 means experiencing the key moments of your Sims lives right along with them – the ups and the downs.

4: You’ll Get to Show Off

If you have big ideas for characters or spaces then not only can you create them, you can also share them with the community in the Gallery (requires EA account).

Share your creations and get comments or browse for inspiration and content you might want to download into your game. There are a ton of amazing creations to discover.

5: We Mentioned the ‘Free’ Thing, Right?

Starting October 18, you’ll be able to jump right in and start getting creative with The Sims 4 after you download it for free. If you’ve ever considered playing, now is the time.

The Sims 4 team will share more about what’s to come in a special stream event, Behind The Sims Summit, on October 18, 2022 at 10 am PDT. Tune in on The Sims YouTube and Twitch channels, or on demand!
