Rethinking Network Security – Philippe Bergeron

Rethinking Network Security - Philippe Bergeron

“Cyber criminals have made the cloud and the Internet of Things (IoT) powerful and lucrative tools for launching Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks on essential web services and vulnerable online customers and business assets. Volumetric DDoS attacks are the cyber equivalent of Category 4 and 5 hurricanes, flooding websites, causing internet brownouts and degrading service performance. As DDoS attacks increase in frequency and magnitude, the cumulative cost of the present mode protection solutions based on scrubbing centres and security appliances is rapidly increasing, while their effective traffic coverage is decreasing.
In this presentation, Philippe Bergeon (Product Line Manager – IP routing) reviews,
– An innovative approach that makes the IP network part of the security solution by mitigating DDoS at the network edge and peering points. Leveraging recent advancements in routing silicon and data analytics, this approach offers an in-line solution that can be applied to scrub all peering traffic, while significantly reducing the cost and reaction time required to mitigate attacks.
– How this solution can be applied at the peering edge against common volumetric attacks such as DNS/NTP amplification, direct UDP flooding attacks and multi-vector attacks. In addition, it will discuss applications for offering clean pipe services and customer end-point protection.”
