O2 backs final clap for key workers

This week, O2’s CEO Mark Evans signed an open letter on behalf of O2 from business leaders, committing to do all that we can to help rebuild communities across Britain.

This show of support, in the form of a nationwide applause, described as the biggest ‘thank you’ the country has ever seen, is just another milestone in our collective effort to get the nation back to its feet.

Organised by the Together campaign group, Sunday will see the whole country come together like never before, perhaps more so than during major sporting events. The moment is not just for the 72nd birthday of the NHS but to thank all key workers who have helped to keep services and community networks going throughout the crisis – carers, school teachers and even our network engineers.

The lockdown has thrown a spotlight on the importance of connectivity as British citizens have used video calls to communicate with family, work, socialise with friends and keep businesses running. People have been relying on our network more than ever.

O2 is committed to continuing to support the country as it begins to reopen and get back on its feet. From bringing our network to rural areas, developing 5G and sharing the latest technology with our customers, we’re helping to Rebuild Britain.

During lockdown, we put our network at the service of other front-line workers, from the doctors and nurses in our NHS to key food logistics and government workers. We’re continuing to support them through initiatives such as working with the NHS Trusts to ensure our current network coverage and capacity is sufficient for their needs. We increased the data and call capacity to the maximum available for a number of Blue Light services and made The O2 arena available as an NHS training facility.

However we know this is just the start of the nation’s recovery. Businesses have a key role to play and as the UK’s number 1 network, O2 has a responsibly to keep the nation connected, help other businesses get back to their feet through new innovations and technology, and support customers and our staff.
